A GROUP of Scandinavian singers, who perform songs in Zulu and Xhosa, will be performing at the Caversham Mill Restaurant in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands on Heritage Day (September 24).

The Baobab Sisters will be joined for the Mill Sessions concert by David “Qadasi” Jenkins and Maqhinga Radebe, who will perform their signature maskandi music. Continue reading

Hilton College pupils’ fundraising concert will help vulnerable children in KZN


Hilton College pupils will be performing at the Hilton Arts Festival to raise money for Ingane Yami, a special village for orphaned and abandoned children in the Dassenhoek community, near Hillcrest. Photo: Supplied

THE Hilton College music department will be hosting a special fundraising concert in the Hilton Arts Festival marquee at 6 pm on Thursday, September 14.

Umkhumbane Jazz Ensemble to perform at UKZN’s Centre for Jazz


MEMORIES of Sophiatown and District Six will be envoked when the Umkhumbane Jazz Ensemble (UJE) performs at the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music at the University of KwaZulu-Natal Howard College campus at 6 pm on Wednesday, September 6.

The 11-piece band will be playing music from their debut album, Ezintabeni, which includes two cover versions — Sgaxa mabhande and Way Back Fifties by African Jazz Pioneers. Continue reading

POPULAR South African music artists, Nasty C and Amanda Black, will be the headline acts at this year’s Durban Port Festival, which runs from Saturday, September 9 to Sunday, September 10.

Hosted by Transnet National Ports Authority, in partnership with eThekwini Municipality, MSC Cruises, African Marine Solutions (AMSOL) and the South African Navy, the festival’s main stage is opposite the Royal Natal Yacht Club. Continue reading
