VISIONARY dancers, Nqubeko “Cue” Ngema and Nosipho Mkhize, are assembling a stellar line up of Durban-based multi-media creatives for an afternoon of poetry, music, dance, drama, visual art, painting and design.

Salute African Goddess will take place on Saturday, August 12 from 3 pm to 6 pm at the Alliance Française de Durban at 22 Sutton Crescent, Morningside as part of the country’s Women’s Month celebrations. Continue reading

PUPILS from Michaelhouse in Balgowan and St Anne’s Diocesan School in Hilton have teamed up to perform one of musical theatre’s most interesting and complex works, Chess.

Running from August 13 to 16 at the Schlesinger Theatre, the musical is based on an idea by Tim Rice, with music by ABBA’s Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, and lyrics by Tim Rice. Continue reading

DUT’s ‘Chronicles of Jack’ takes a wry look at the student experience

A NEW play, which takes a wry look at the experiences of a young student from rural Eastern Cape, will be staged at the Durban University of Technology’s Courtyard Theatre in Durban on August 18 and 19.

Chronicles of Jack, which has been written for DUT by Mbasa Tsetsana (Waiting for Nelson), offers a new perspective of a student from a rural area adapting to city life and of being part of an urban campus in the Fees Must Fall generation. Expect plenty of social complexities, clashing ideologies and a tussle between tradition and self-discovery. Continue reading
