AROUND 100 dancers will be strutting their stuff on the Playhouse Opera Theatre stage in Durban for the 25th season of Shall We Dance.

Italian-American violinist Francesca Dego to perform with KZN Philharmonic

Italian-American violinist Francesca Dego is the soloist at this week’s KZN Philharmonic Orchestra concert.

The KZN Philharmonic Orchestra Summer Symphony Season’s continues on Thursday, February 16 in the Playhouse Opera Theatre in Durban.

Canadian-born Trinidadian conductor Kwamé Ryan conducts the orchestra whose programme opens with Mikhail Glinka’s Overture to Ruslan and Ludmilla followed by the South African premiere of Italian composer Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari’s violin concerto. The concert closes with Dvořák’s Symphony No.8 in G major. Continue reading

Environmental awareness with a musical twist

DIM-DEP: Faces of Environmental Success is a musical theatre production that is written, produced and directed by Atlas Duma and will take place at the Playhouse Opera Theatre in Durban from Thursday, June 9 to Sunday, June 12 at 7 pm each evening.

It is a two part musical theatre production that explores themes of African heritage, tribalism, the environment and the origins of soul and the blues with a special link to South African jazz and popular music. Continue reading
