Handel’s Messiah, which will be staged in the magnificent Playhouse Opera Theatre on Easter Sunday, April 16 at 3pm, promises a feast of beautiful music and stunning costumes and visuals for lovers of this sacred work.
This enormously popular oratorio will be helmed by Marcus Desando, the chief executive officer of the Gauteng Opera, and chairman of the South African National Opera Association, who has directed over 40 productions ranging from operas to concerts.
Singers include baritone, Aubrey Lodewyk, mezzo-soprano, Violina Anguelov, tenor, Thabiso Masemene and soprano, Khumbuzile Dhlamini. The production will also feature the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Naum Rousine.
Highlights of this much-loved work include the magnificent Hallelujah Chorus, For Unto Us A Child Is Born, And The Glory of the Lord, He Was Despised, I Know That My Redeemer Liveth, and The Trumpet Shall Sound, to name but a few.
