David Snaith to perform Telemann Viola Concerto at Baroque 2000 concert

Baroque 2000, who have just returned from giving four performances as the resident orchestra at the 2017 Harare International Festival of the Arts, will present a concert at the Mariannhill Monastery, near Pinetown, at 11.30 am on Sunday, May 7.

The programme will include David Snaith as the soloist in Telemann’s Viola Concerto in G, Telemann’s picturesque burlesque suite, Don Quixote, Biber’s Batallia, depicting various militaristic scenes, and Handel’s Concerto Grosso Op 6 No1.

The International Arts Foundation Inc. of New Orleans in the United States, in association with Durban’s Playhouse Company, presenting the acclaimed stage drama, We Live Here, by the award-winning American playwright, Harold Ellis Clark.

The powerfully written work, will be staged in The Playhouse Drama Theatre from 5 to 7 May. It marks an ongoing sister-city cultural exchange between New Orleans and Durban, which aims to bridge communication and understanding between the two cities. Continue reading

Delegate registration for Africa’s premier film finance and co-production market, the Durban FilmMart (DFM), is open.

Celebrating its 8th edition, this year’s DFM, a joint programme of the Durban Film Office (DFO), the eThekwini Municipality’s industry development unit, and the Durban International Film Festival – hosted by the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Centre for Creative Arts – takes place from 14 to 17 July. THE Hexagon Theatre at the University of KwaZulu-Natal Pietermaritzburg campus will be playing host to two different productions in May.

From Wednesday, May 3 to Saturday, May 6 at 7.30pm, theatregoers can watch The Rise and Fall of the City of Baobabia, devised and directed by William le Cordeur, in the Studio Theatre. Meanwhile, in the main theatre space, there will be a performance of The Ancient at 6pm on Thursday, May 4 and Friday, May 5. Continue reading
