This July, the Standard Bank National Youth Jazz Festival (SBNYJF) is celebrating 25 years of investing in the country’s young musicians – with yet another unparalleled instalment of great music masterclasses and clinics.

The festival, which runs until July 8, takes place alongside the Standard Bank Jazz Festival – the country’s oldest jazz festival – in Grahamstown during the National Arts Festival. Continue reading

A GROUP of teenage prodigies from Durban and the North Coast is making waves on the South African music scene, writes ESTELLE SINKINS.

Kwini Kuza, which is made up of singers and musicians aged between 13 and 14, formed in February 2016 and have  performed around KwaZulu-Natal, including at the Ballito Pro, White Mountain Festival, KZN Music Imbizo, Awesome Ilembe Music Festival, Shisa Nyama Festival, Zini Music Festival and Tongaat Charity Fair. ASPIRANT orchestral musicians in the Durban are being invited to audition for the British Cultural and Heritage Association (BCHA)’s Corobrik Orchestra 2017 project.

THE Ildo Nandja Trio will perform at the Jazzy Rainbow in Durban’s Morningside on Friday, July 7 as part of the Concerts SA circuit which aims to foster a love and support for live music in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Western Cape.

The trio comprises Ildo Nandja on upright bass and vocals, Neil Gonsalves on piano and Sibusiso Zondi on drums. Continue reading
