MUSIC in the Hills (MiTH) in Hilton will be hosting performances by Duncan Park, Erin Fourie and The Swish Collective at The Knoll Guesthouse and Backpackers in Knoll Drive from 7 pm on Wednesday, July 27.
Duncan is a folk/blues/psychedelic aficionado whose instruments include acoustic guitar, charango and vocals. His influences include the likes of Neil Young, Frank Zappa and King Crimson.
Here’s what CUE – the National Arts Festival’s official paper – had to say: “With tales of psychedelic potatoes, exploding silkworms, John the Baptist’s relationship advice and quitting smoking to get into heaven… It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before. Imaginative, playful, bizarre and disturbingly provocative.”
Duncan adds: “…despite the biblical and religious references in my songs and music, I don’t subscribe to, nor believe in any major religion or god.”

Erin’s acoustic folk and her lilting voice are legendary in these parts. Her special guest for a song or two will be Brandon Bosch on vocals, and her favourite bands include Regina Spektor, Tori Amos, Pearl Jam, Ingrid Michaelson and Ani DiFranco.
Forged in the iconic downtown drinking-hole that is The Thistle Hotel, The Swish Collective is a group of music lovers brought together by their passion for performing. The group comprises members of all ages, from all walks of life, salesmen to scrappies, teachers to travelling barmen.
The signature of the Swish collective is our very own Swish Ambassador; you’ll know him by his suit and trademark tambourine. You can expect a show full of energy, the songs you love to sing along to, and boy band good looks.
The band is made up of Wayne Gracie and Sasha Jarman on vocals, Brett Truter and Mark Butler on guitar, André Swart on bass, Stuart Hancocks on drums and Ralph Gosling on tambourine and swish.
Entry is R20 and food and soft drinks are available, BYOB. Visit http://www.mith.co.za for more details and directions.
Musicians who wish to play at MiTh should contact Kirsten Rae Hughes on 072 220 9757 or e-mail: kirstyh03@gmail.com. Performers plus one partner get in free.
MiTH is a semi-open mic music club which gives musicians an opportunity to share the joy of their music with a friendly audience which includes fellow musicians – who have all “been there” too. Non-musicians welcome too!
