MUSIC lovers are in for yet another treat when the Maritzburg Muscian’s Club hosts Chico Muya and Matthew Gardiner at La Casa in Quarry Road, Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday, May 3.
Chico, a Durban-based singer-songwriter is a highly enjoyable, magnetic, established musician, whose warm, catchy songs offer an exciting mix of acoustic folk and pop. Chico is currently recording his first EP. Last year he released his first single called Two Roads. It performed incredibly well on East Coast Radio, and the listenership couldn’t get enough of it.
He has recently been joined by musical Spencer Kerr, who has made a name for himself working with professional musician’s around South Africa.
The two musicians have been creating quite a stir in Durban, most notably when they opened for the Parlotones at the Durban Botanical Gardens. An EP has been in the works for the last few months and will hopefully be ready for release by August or September this year.
Pietermaritzburg- born singer-guitarist, Matthew Gardiner, took a leap of faith and launched head first into his dream of being a rock star over a year ago, and his hard work has seen him performing on some of South Africa’s greatest stages in the past year, including getting far on Idols!
His music is a mix between indie and folk, with a slight rock undertone, and his main instrument is the guitar along with his voice.
Doors open at 7 pm. Tickets R40.
