Celebrating the 21st anniversary of “La Route du Prince Impérial, Louis Napoléon” in KZN

This year marks the 21st Anniversary of the establishment of La Route du Prince Impérial, Louis Napoléon (The Route of the Prince Impérial, Louis Napoleon), a tourism initiative that follows the scenic pilgrimage route through KwaZulu-Natal, taken by a mother in mourning as she followed the footsteps of her son to where he was killed during the Anglo-Zulu War in 1879.

The Prince Impérial, Louis Napoléon was killed in an ambush at uQweqwe, near Nqutu, on 1 June 1879. The following year on the anniversary of his death, his mother, the Empress Eugenie, spent the night in vigil at the very spot, which is now marked as a monument to him. Continue reading

THE Tatham Art Gallery in Pietermaritzburg is calling for portfolio submissions for the 2018 exhibitions to be staged in its Schreiner Gallery, a temporary exhibition space for artists and groups working primarily in the Msunduzi region.

South African diva, Sibongile Mngoma (soprano) and tenor, Sandile Mabaso will be presenting an opera recital at the Pinetown Methodist Church on 18 March at 7pm and at the Tatham Art Gallery on 19 March at 3pm.

POPULAR Cape Town-based guitarist, James Grace, will be performing in three Music Revival concerts in Kloof and Pietermaritzburg this month.

Grace, who recently performed with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra in Kirstenbosch to more than 7 000 people, will join forces with pianist, Christopher Duigan, for the recitals at the Tatham Art Gallery at 3 pm on Sunday, February 19, Casa Mexicana at 35 Montgomery Road on Tuesday, February 21 and at St Agnes Church in Kloof on Thursday, February 23. TO celebrate the start of Music Revival’s 20th year presenting classical music concerts, Christopher Duigan will be performing his favourite masterpieces at St Agnes Church in Kloof at 7.30 pm on Thursday, January 26 and at the Tatham Art Gallery in Pietermaritzburg at 3 pm on Sunday, January 29.

Get your hands on amazing artworks at the FOTAG Fabulous Picture Show

After months of preparation, the Friends of the Tatham Art Gallery’s (FOTAG) major fundraiser, the 2016 Fabulous Picture Show is about to open.

More than 236 art works have been donated by over 100 artists and they will all go under the auction hammer on Friday, November 25.All funds raised will be used by FOTAG to purchase new artworks for the Tatham Art Gallery’s permanent collection. Continue reading
