SAFTAS: all the winners

THE much lauded Afrikaans feature film, Dis, Ek Anna, took home thee Golden Horns at the 10th South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas) at the Gallagher Estate in Johannesburg at the weekend.

Dis Ek, Anna was named best feature film. It’s director Sara Blecher won best achievement in directing and Marius Weyers was named best supporting actor. Continue reading

SAFTA 2016 nominees revealed

saftasTHE National Film and Video Foundation has revealed the nominees for the 10th South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs). The winners will be revealed live at two star-studded ceremonies which will be held at Gallagher Estate on Friday, March 18 and Sunday, March 20.

The winner of Best TV Presenter Golden Horn for SAFTAs 2015 and presenter of Expresso Morning Show on SABC3, Katlego Maboe will serve as the SAFTAs 2016 host. Continue reading

Ayanda to screen on DStv and Netflix

South African film Ayanda, which was acquired for distribution in the US, is now available in the US and Canada from on-demand Internet streaming media company Netflix through Ava Duvernay’s ARRAY Distribution. This follows the film’s successful US release on the theatrical arthouse circuit in the last quarter of 2015.

Locally, the film premiered on DSTV Box Office until 25 January. The DVD will be released in South Africa in February. Continue reading

South African film, Ayanda, opens in the United States

Hot on the heels of its screening at the 59th BFI London Film Festival in October, South African coming-of-age film Ayanda has been released in theatres in Los Angeles and New York. The film was picked up for distribution in the United States by Selma director and film distributor Ava DuVernay’s distribution company ARRAY. Continue reading
