John Kani’s ‘Nothing at the Truth’ at the Playhouse in Durban

Nobulali Productions, in association with The Playhouse Company, will present Nothing but The Truth by Dr John Kani, at 3 pm on Sunday, August 7 in the Playhouse Loft Theatre in Durban.

This is the only public performance of the work which has been created as a learning aid production geared to assist pupils who are studying the play as a set-work. Continue reading

Powerful new play, ‘Lenny’, at Durban’s Playhouse

Lenny – a powerful new play commemorating the life of former political activist Lenny Naidu – is to be staged in the Playhouse Drama Theatre in Durban from July 21 to 31.

Written and narrated by Jayshree Parasuramen, directed by Themi Venturas, and starring Rahul Brijnath, Lenny tells a moving human story about a man who gave his life for to the struggle for freedom of the people of South Africa.  Continue reading

Connect and celebrate Youth Day at Iziko

To commemorate 40 years since the Soweto Uprising, Iziko Museums of South Africa has granted free entry to nine of its museums in and around Cape Town on Youth Day, Thursday, June 16.

The Youth Day programme will take place at the Iziko Slave Lodge, the focus of which is to commemorate, connect and celebrate the Youth of the Past, Present and Future and to reflect on the activism of youth in South Africa. Continue reading

BBC Africa marks the 40th anniversary  of the Soweto Uprising

BBC Africa will bring audiences across the world special programming this week, marking the 40th anniversary of the June 16 Soweto uprisings.

The protests by thousands of students and the police response had a profound impact on the social and political landscape in South Africa.

Dedicated programming will include a live debate from Soweto and special broadcasts of Focus on Africa on Radio (BBC World Service) and TV (the BBC World News channel) as well as features on BBCAfrica.com and coverage across all of the BBC’s African language services. Continue reading

Free public screenings at 37th Durban International Film Festival

THE Durban International Film Festival, which takes place from June 16 to 26, will host a series of free public screenings.

The DIFF will travel to Clermont, Kwangcolosi, Inanda, Umlazi, KwaMashu and the city centre, where people will have the opportunity to watch this year’s opening night film The Journeymen as well as the comedy – Wonder Boy for President, starring Kagiso Lediga. Continue reading
