Tense thriller to air on BBC First

THE tense psychological thriller, Thirteen, will be screened from 8 pm on Wednesday, September 28 on BBC First (DStv channel 119).

The drama follows the story of Ivy Moxham, a 26-year-old woman learning to live again after 13 years in captivity. When Ivy escapes the cellar that’s been her prison since she was abducted, it’s just the start of her story.

She’s beginning to pick up the threads of a life half-lived, but they’re about to be pulled apart again. Her captor is on the run, and as cracks appear in Ivy’s account of her ordeal, the police begin to doubt her motives. What happened in that cellar? And can Ivy really be trusted?

Tom Burke to play Cormoran Strike in television adaptation of Robert Galbraith’s crime thrillers

Tom Burke is set to play Cormoran Strike in the BBC adaptation of The Cuckoo’s Calling, The Silkworm and Career of Evil, written by J.K. Rowling under the pseudonym, Robert Galbraith.

THREE television dramas, based on J.K. Rowling’s crime novels – written under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith – are heading for the small screen, courtesy of the BBC.

British actor, Tom Burke (The Musketeers, War and Peace) will play Cormoran Strike, a war veteran turned private detective, who operates out of a tiny office in London’s Denmark Street in the adaptations of The Cuckoo’s Calling, The Silkworm and Career of Evil. Continue reading

History Channel to screen 9/11 documentary

The History Channel (DStv channel 186) will be screening the documentary, 9/11 15th Anniversary Special – 102 Minutes That Changed America at 8.30 pm on Sunday, September 4.

This Emmy Award-winning and critically acclaimed documentary, chronicles the terror of 9/11 in real-time.

It is a minute by minute account of the catastrophe unfolding, using footage from numerous sources, including personal camcorder footage, police and fire department recordings, and in-the-moment commentary from first responders and witnesses.

There are also interviews and perspectives from those featured in the film, or people who can speak of the events that followed the attack.

Comedy Central flies SA comedy flag at Canada’s Just For Laughs Festival

Popular South African comedians Robbie Collins and David Kau will be flying the flag for South African comedy when they perform at the biggest comedy festival in the world: the Just For Laughs comedy festival in Montreal, Canada until August 1.

The two comedians are joining Comedy Central (DStv channel 122) on the channel’s annual pilgrimage to Canada where they’ll be showcasing South African comedy at the world famous event. Continue reading

‘UnREAL’ producer, Sarah Shapiro, chats about the second season of the award-winning show

Set against the backdrop of the hit dating competition show Everlasting, UnREAL is led by flawed heroine Rachel Goldberg (Shiri Appleby), a young producer whose sole job is to manipulate her relationships with and among the contestants to get the vital dramatic and outrageous footage that the programme’s dispassionate executive producer, Quinn King (Constance Zimmer), demands.

Bernard Hill talks about his role in the gripping drama ‘Unforgotten’

BBC First (DStv channel 119) will be screening the new drama series, Unforgotten, from 8 pm on Wednesday, July 20.

Written and created by Chris Lang (Undeniable, A Mother’s Son, Torn), the series focuses on a ‘cold’ murder case of 39 years ago when the bones of a young man are found beneath the footings of a demolished house.

An investigation begins that will unravel the lives of four people who have been waiting for this moment for nearly forty years. They soon discover the past can’t, and won’t stay buried forever.

Kerry Howard and Zoe Boyle spill the beans on the new ITV series, ‘Witless’

Witless, the new ITV Choice comedy series that premiered on the DStv channel 123 this week tells the story of flatmates Rhona (Kerry Howard) and Leanne (Zoe Boyle) whose lives are turned upside down after they witness a shocking gangland shooting.

Forced into witness protection, the girls quickly discover that assuming a new identity isn’t that simple. While Leanne jumps at the chance to create an extravagant alter-ego, Rhona is paralysed with fear, telling even the simplest lie.

With two teenage gang members determined to track them down, the girls find themselves getting deeper and deeper into trouble.
