Enjoy a weekend of magical music at Michaelhouse in the KZN Midlands

Rubber Duc will be performing at the Michaelhouse Music Festival.

Music lovers are invited to head to the hills for the third annual Michaelhouse Music Festival, taking place over the month-end April long weekend. The four-day festival kicks off on Freedom Day on Thursday, 27 April and concludes on Sunday, 30 April.

Pietermaritzburg’s very own Idols star and student teacher and last year’s winner of Idols SA season 12, Noma Khumalo, who will be joined by legendary vocalist, Sibongile Khumalo.

Big names that will be performing at the festival are Cape Town based live electronic duo, The Kiffness, Easy Freak (a new Durban-based two-piece performing an eclectic mix of funk/pop/soul/electro and other sounds combined) and Rubber Duc, an independent, fresh, four-piece band.

Also on the bill is Michaelhouse’s very own Pillar Box Red comprising of four pupils.

Ending the festival on a high note will be Africa’s foremost professional orchestra, the KZN Philharmonic led jointly by maestro Richard Cock and Michaelhouse’s William Silk.

Fans of Fleetwood Mac are in for a treat when some of Durban’s finest musicians take to the stage of the Rhumbelow Theatre – Pietermaritzburg at the Alan Wilson Shellhole in Alan Paton Avenue (Durban Road) at 8pm on Saturday, March 25 and 2pm and 6.30pm on Sunday, March 26.

Enjoy some fun, alternative rock with Durban band, Autopilot

Durban band Autopilot will be performing at the Live Fridays event on Friday, March 3 at La Casa in Quarry Road, Pietermaritzburg.

Formed in early 2015, all three members of this fun, alternative rock band have been part of the Durban music scene for a long time. The band is made up of Shane Strachan on vocals and guitar, Steven Murray on guitars and vocals, Raul Diaz on drums and percussion and Jon-Claude Stirling on bass guitar.

Entry is R30 before 9pm,  and R40 thereafter.

The Butlers Restaurant at 24 Old Main Road in Hillcrest will be hosting Sounds for Hounds at 12 noon on March 5. The fundraising concert, which is in aid of Pet Rescue, will feature saxophonist, Andrew Young, who is out from Austria on a tour around South Africa.
