Fantastic fun expected at Hillcrest’s Festival in the Hills

A day long feast of family fun entertainment is happening on the last Saturday of August in Hillcrest with a star-studded roster headed by the internationally acclaimed Drakensberg Boys Choir and more.

The Rotary Club of Kloof presents the Festival in The Hills 2016, a wonderful cultural extravaganza for the whole family, hosted by Curro Hillcrest Christian Academy. Festival in The Hills will take place at Curro HCA in Hillcrest on Saturday, August 27 from 9 am to 4.30 pm. Continue reading →

Festival organizer Darryl David prepares to open the sixth chapter of the annual not-to-be-missed Midlands Literary Festival that takes place this weekend at Yellowwood CafŽ in Howick on the Karkloof Road. Hilton Arts Festival: Jumping Jiminy – It’s Jongosi!

The 24nd annual Hilton Arts Festival is offering a bumper Jongosi schools arts festival embedded in the main festival, for high schools and primary schools to have a tailor-made package ahead of the main event.

The festival will take place on the beautiful grounds of the Hilton College from September 16 – 18, with Jongosi taking place for one day only – Friday, September 16 for senior primary schools (grades 6 and 7 only) and high schools. Continue reading →

ARTISTIC excellence was celebrated at the National Arts Festival on Sunday morning (July 10) when the winners of the 2016 Standard Bank Ovation Awards were revealed at a ceremony which also honoured outgoing National Arts Festival artistic director, Ismail Mahomed.

Commenting on the impact of the awards, Mahomed said: “The Ovation Awards have earned a significant gravitas in the arts sector. They have become a barometer for audiences and visiting arts managements about productions that should not be missed. Standing Ovation Award for Gary Gordon

GARY Gordon, the “father of South African physical theatre”, was presented with a Standard Bank Standing Ovation Award at a reception held at the Monument in Grahamstown, in honour of his “longstanding creative energy in South Africa’s cultural life and his enormously significant contributions to the vitality of the National Arts Festival’s main, fringe and arena programmes”.
