New partners for popular screenwriters residency
In November 2015, Urucu Media announced the call for submissions for REALNESS, a Pan African screenwriter’s residency. Thus far over 80 submissions have been received, with 40% of them coming from outside of South Africa. The scope of writers ranges from established writer/directors to self-taught, emerging talent. Think Theatre’s acclaimed production of Othello marks Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary

2016 marks the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare and I am delighted that schools still consider it worth learning the Bard’s work.
Part of that ongoing appeal is being able to see Shakespeare performed live and if your child’s school has not yet booked to see Think Theatre’s critically acclaimed production of the tragedy Othello in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng then I urge you to get them to do so.
It will bring the Bard’s work to vivid life and is the perfect salute to the British playwright, who died on 23 April 1616. Continue reading

Ayanda to screen on DStv and Netflix

South African film Ayanda, which was acquired for distribution in the US, is now available in the US and Canada from on-demand Internet streaming media company Netflix through Ava Duvernay’s ARRAY Distribution. This follows the film’s successful US release on the theatrical arthouse circuit in the last quarter of 2015.
Locally, the film premiered on DSTV Box Office until 25 January. The DVD will be released in South Africa in February. Continue reading
