Invasion of the Tanga Bears.

Get ready for the invasion of wild musical animals when Tanga Zoo takes to the stage at Centre for Jazz and Popular Music at the University of KwaZulu-Natal Howard College campus at 6pm on Wednesday, February 15.

Andy Brugger, one of Switzerland’s most accomplished jazz- and funk-drummers, and a teacher at the Zürich College for Music (ZHdK), leads the band, which includes Jean-Pierre Schaller (bass), André Kunz (guitar), Marc Jufer (reeds) and Kriz Flueler (trumpet/electronics).

No stranger to South Africa, having toured here twice, Tanga Zoo fascinates with its hypnotic grooves and virtuoso playing. It’s not jazz, it’s not funk – it’s both. But you won’t be missing some soulful melody’s either.

The Centre for Jazz & Popular Music (CJPM) is on level 2 of the Shepstone Building at UKZN. Doors open 5.30 pm. Tickets will be available at the door for R70 (R45 pensioners and R20 students).
