The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway in Umhlanga is celebrating the send of 2016 with a production which pays tribute to the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. Hollywood Walk Of Fame, which features music from the movies, runs until December 31.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame comprises more than 2,500 five-pointed brass stars embedded in the pavement along Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles.
In this show, the Barnyard Theatre pays tribute to songs that have become as iconic as the films that they were composed for, and whose stars became showbiz stalwarts, with their names etched into our memories.
Hollywood Walk of Fame kicks off with music from the dance movies of the seventies and eighties, including Saturday Night Fever, Jive Talkin’ and You Should Be Dancing. The seventies were also responsible for the all-time classic Grease and songs like You’re The One That I Want, Greased Lightnin’ and Born To Hand Jive?
Movies from the eighties produced Flashdance, Footloose, Fame, Dirty Dancing, Purple Rain and Top Gun, all of which feature in the show, alongside ballads like I Do It For You by Bryan Adams from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves; I Believe I Can Fly by R Kelly from Space Jam; and My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion from Titanic.
From the nineties come Pulp Fiction, The Full Monty and The Men in Black; along with the theme from Dangerous Minds, Gangsta’s Paradise.
Several great movie theme songs get rocked up in this show including Space Odyssey, Peter Gunn, Phantom Of The Opera, Star Wars and Mission Impossible; while the show’s Cult Movie segment pays homage to The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Whether it be a year-end staff function, family outing or festive season celebration, the movie hits of Hollywood Walk Of Fame are sure to get the party started. To accommodate this festive season revelry, additional lunch time shows (starting at 1.30 pm) have been added on Friday, November 18, Friday, November 25, Friday, December 2, Thursday, December 8, Friday, December 9, Tuesday, December 13, Wednesday, December 14 and Thursday, December 15.
