Durban’s rising talent will be on show the DUT DigiFest

DURBAN University of Technology’s will be hosting its third annual DigiFest on September 9 and 10 at the university’s city campus in Durban.

The two-day event will include a series of live art activations, exhibitions, panel discussions, workshops, music, theatre, poetry, comedy and dance. Continue reading

As South Africa marks 60 years since the historic Women’s March to the Union Buildings, the Standard Bank Gallery raises a toast to an artist whose life brimmed with interesting and influential women – Henri Matisse.

Thousands of visitors have already marvelled at the Henri Matisse – Rhythm and Meaning exhibition, the first full-scale showcase of the French modernist’s work on the African continent. Khabonina Qubeka shines in new SA film, ‘Dora’s Peace’

Dora’s Peace, starring Khabonina Qubeka (pictured) in the title role, and directed by Kosta Kalarytis, has opened to excellent reviews.

Shot on location in Johannesburg, the film tells the story of Dora, a Hillbrow prostitute, who sets out to save a gifted young boy from the violent clutches of organised crime, in the process, she is forced to rediscover aspects of her own lost humanity. Continue reading

The third concert of the KZN Philharmonic’s World Symphony Series Spring Season features Dutch conductor, Arjan Tien, leading the orchestra in a programme of music from France, with famed Indian pianist, Pallavi Mahindhara, as the soloist for the evening. History Channel to screen 9/11 documentary

The History Channel (DStv channel 186) will be screening the documentary, 9/11 15th Anniversary Special – 102 Minutes That Changed America at 8.30 pm on Sunday, September 4.

This Emmy Award-winning and critically acclaimed documentary, chronicles the terror of 9/11 in real-time.

It is a minute by minute account of the catastrophe unfolding, using footage from numerous sources, including personal camcorder footage, police and fire department recordings, and in-the-moment commentary from first responders and witnesses.

There are also interviews and perspectives from those featured in the film, or people who can speak of the events that followed the attack.
