The Centre for Jazz and Popular at the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Howard College campus in Durban hosts a performance by the Blvck Crystals at 6pm on Wednesday, September 21.
The Blvck Crystals are a Durban-based band, made up of pianist Jaedon Daniel, drummer Jude Kenrick, bassist Dalisu Ndlazi, guitarist Nick Pitman and saxophonist Nokwanda Nkala. On occasion, the band features two vocalists from Durban and two rappers from Cape Town.
Blvck Crystals sound is based on jazz and hip-hop based. Each member brings their own flavour to the music. A large number of the repertoire is original material alongside a few covers.
Most of the band are currently studying at UKZN School of the arts. They completed a highly successful Cape Town tour in July.
“Our goal is to platform new and fresh sounds while portraying the origins of other music genres. Our musical journey has just begun and we can’t wait for what the future holds,” said Jaedon Daniel.
