ACS1_pp (Custom)

Antonier Stonier performs the music of Richard Rodgers in The Sound of His Music at the Aliwal Theatre at Umkomaas Primary School at 8 pm on Saturday, September and at the Rhumbelow Theatre in Cunningham Road, Durban at 2 pm and 6.30 pm on Sunday, September 4.

Anthony takes a trip “down memory-lane” through the marvellous melodies of one of the most famous composers of all time, Richard Rodgers.

Most of us are familiar with the Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals – Oklahoma! South Pacific, The King and I and of course The Sound of Music. Less well known was an earlier collaboration with another lyricist, Lorenz Hart. Butyou will recognise some of the following jazz standards – Where or When, My Funny Valentine, This Can’t be Love and Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered!

The playlist includes Oh, What a Beautiful Morning!, Some Enchanted Evening, Surrey with a Fringe on Top, Hello Young Lovers, Edelweiss, Happy Talk and You’ll Never Walk Alone to name but a few!

These evergreen songs are interspersed with anecdotes and amusing stories relating to the shows they came from.

Anthony is one of KwaZulu-Natal’s most popular singer/actors and has won best male vocalist at the Durban Theatre Awards three times.

This show sold out at The Hilton Arts Festival in September 2014.
