‘ALL About Oils’ – a three day painting retreat with Diane Erasmus takes place from Sunday, June 19 to Tuesday, June 21 at the Zulu-Lulu Art Room at the Caladdi B&B in the KZN Midlands.
“I love how Diane guides you through her process of layering colour to achieve light and reflection in her paintings.. and her natural ability to teach is inspirational,” says Trayci Tompkins who co-ordinates The Art Room events.
Touching the senses and a wholesome approach to creating art, is important to Tompkins, whose bespoke studio space is set in a relaxed country environment complete with log burning fires for our chilly winter days.
There is a choice of attending the three day workshops as a ‘day tripper’ if you live nearby, or spend two nights with an affordable five star rated dinner, bed and breakfast option that Caladdi B&B has become well known for. Either option will offer you three days of delicious lunch meals and decedent teas alongside painting demonstrations and individual attention by Erasmus.
You have the choice to bring along your own reference material /photograph to paint from, or select from one of Diane’s many photo images. Her tuition will cover sketching, painting with brush and palette knife, colour mixing and blending.
Well-known for her distinctive landscape and seascape scenes, Diane has exhibited her work throughout South Africa and has a healthy following both locally and abroad. Her vivid impressionistic works are imbued with a profoundly spiritual awareness, yet remain grounded in those elements which define a great work of art and have earned her a place among the most innovative and creative painters of her generation.
As a teacher Diane has inspired many to find a confidence in painting with oils. “I always suggest to people that they approach a painting workshop with an open mind to experience the journey and what it may bring. Each person is unique and whether you are an advanced painter or a complete beginner, you will learn something new along with the joy and spontaneity of the experience,” says Diane whose previous workshop at Zulu-lulu Art House in the Midlands was a sell out success.
