Bassist Ildo Nandja will be launching his debut album, Paz A Todos (Peace to All), at the Albert Luthuli Street in Groutville on Friday, March 4 at 6 pm.
Durban-based Ildo, who hails from Maputo, Mozambique, has been touring KwaZulu-Natal to promote the album.
From a young age he engaged with music and through his involvement in a local music and dance company, began playing the timbila, a traditional xylophone, as well as percussion instruments.
His dedication led to him performing at events and festivals around the world and Ildo is currently studying towards a Master’s degree in jazz performance and a traditional music research project at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban.
Recognised as an outstanding and disciplined bass player and soloist, his debut album Paz A Todos (Peace to All) features a range of sounds and genres that combine his background in traditional music with the harmonic and melodic complexity of jazz.
His band typically features his good friends and Unity band members: Ildo on vocals and double bass, Sanele Phakathi on keys, Sebastian Goldswain on guitar and Sidney Rash on drums.
“I want to offer the audience not just a show, but a memorable experience – a great party together with people they do and don’t know, all united by the music,” he says.
Tickets for the gig, which is supported by Concerts SA, are R90. Tickets available at www.webtickets.co.za; Pick ‘n Pay and at the door
