On February 11, 1966 District Six was declared a white group area. Over 60,000 people were relocated. A way of life was destroyed. Fifty years have passed and today hardly anything remains of what was once a thriving, densely populated, multi-ethnic and multi-cultural community.

Times Media Films, distributor of the Afrikaans language feature film Dis ek, Anna (It’s Me, Anna), which examines the devastating effects of the sexual abuse of young Anna Bruwer by her stepfather, has partnered  with the recently launched Put Your Foot Down (Sit Jou Voet Neer) Foundation to promote the film’s message about taking a stand against sexual abuse. The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music at the University of KwaZulu-Natal is hosting the Dialogue of Musical Sounds concert, in association with The African Music Project 10th African Cultural Calabash, at 6 pm on Wednesday, September 30. The concert will feature the Zvirmudeze Mbira Ensemble from Zimbabwe, under direction of Dr. Perminus Matiure, the Durban-based Salim Washington Ensemble (United States/South Africa) and Jo Kunnuji from Nigeria.
