INXEBA (known internationally as The Wound) won the prizes for best director for John Trengrove and best actor for Nakhane Touré at the Durban International Film Festival on Saturday, July 22, writes ESTELLE SINKINS.

Award-winning SA film ‘Inexba’ (‘The Wound’) premieres at DIFF

THE South African film Inxeba (known internationally as The Wound) has won the best film award in the International New Talent Competition, at the Taipei Film Festival, ahead of its African premiere at the Durban International Film Festival at The Playhouse on Friday, July 14.

This is a latest in a string of awards for the film, which explores tradition and masculinity, and the clash between age-old rituals and modernity. Continue reading

Time of the Writer unveils authors and a challenging programme for its 19th edition

THE authors headed to Durban of the 19th edition of Time of the Writer have been revealed by the Centre for Creative Arts t the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN).

Ten writers from South Africa and Africa will meet for a week of stimulating literary dialogue and exchange of ideas. The 19th Poetry Africa international poetry festival, which begins on Monday, (October 12) will close on Saturday (October 17) with a festival finale with Nakhane Toure at the Rivertown Beerhall. The programme begins at 4 pm with the annual Poetry Africa Durban Slam Jam event where Durban slam poets will compete for the title of Poetry Africa Slam Jam champion. Continue reading
