BEFORE there was Dirty Dancing…  before there was Saturday Night Fever… before ballroom dancing became cool with reality TV, there was the real deal – the dancers tearing up the dance floor, in an “international style” competition since 1920.

International style competitions involve five Latin American dances and five classic ballroom dances. From this competition came a theatre production so fabulous, so hot that it’s called Burn the Floor.

Only the fanciest foot moves and tidiest twirls make it on this stage … and they’re coming  the iZulu Theatre at the Sibaya Casino in Durban from June 8 to 19. Continue reading

This weekend there is no choice but to Curry on Laughing

Comedy fans will have no choice but to Curry on Laughing when an ensemble of proudly-local Durban comedians – Sans Moonsamy, Jailoshini Naidoo and Eubulus Tracy – hit Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom with vengeance this weekend.

Curry on Laughing is a fast-paced, rollicking comedy that boasts hilarious stand-up routines intercepted by tantalizing comic sketches with over-the-top caricatures. .

Shows are at 8 pm on April 8 and 9 and at 3 pm and 6 pm on Sunday, April 10 at Sibaya’s iZulu Theatre. Tickets cost R120 and R140 at Computicket or at the Sibaya Box Office.

Shashika Mooruth celebrates the music of Lata Mangeshkar

Well-known Indian songstress, Shashika Mooruth, celebrates 45 years in music with a nostalgic tribute show to the “melody queen” Lata Mangeshkar at Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom on March 18 and 19 at 7.30 pm.

Mooruth will be supported by the dancers from Sherese Dance Production for this vibrant musical showcase.
