THE Phansi Museum will be mounting its second exhibition of the year in the Phansi goes Phezulu Gallery, 500 Esther Roberts Road, Glenwood, tilted The New Kids on the Block.

This exhibition will introduce the public to the latest treasures acquired for the Phansi Museum Collection; and comprises life sized puppets of the Herero, Himba and Hakawana people from northern Namibia adorned in ceremonial dress, beadwork and regalia.

In contrast to the magnificent attire of the Herero people, the museum will have on display a marvelous wedding dress, dating back to the 19th Century  worn by a Victorian, English bride who stamped her identity on the attire of the people of Namibia.  Continue reading

RESIDENTS of Pietermaritzburg are getting the chance to explore the many historic buildings in the city in the new exhibition, Building History: Drawings and prints of historic Pietermaritzburg buildings by Carola Brotherton, which opens in the Schreiner Gallery at the Tatham Art Gallery in Chief Albert Luthuli Street at 10.30 am for 11 am on Sunday, February 7. artSPACE durban was born out of a dream to explore the concept of space, by bringing artists and creatives together in a warehouse style space.

For over twelve years, the gallery at 3 Millar Road, Durban, has opened its doors as a much-loved art gallery and event venue, hosting hundreds of exhibitions, shows and seminars and attracting people from all walks of life.

13th Annual Affordable Art Show at artSPACE durban

RUNNING until Saturday, January 16 at artSPACE durban is the 13th Annual Affordable Art Show.

Says Karen Bradkte: “We have managed to select and collect a wide range of fine art.  The gallery is full of a wide selection of works to give the buyers plenty to choose from.

“The maximum sale price is R3 500 once again this year.  Over 70 artists are participating and have brought us a variety of works from oil paintings, ceramics, prints, photographs, drawings and more.

“What is special about this exhibition over our others, is that when you purchase the artwork(s): you pay and then you can take!!  This encourages people to buy during this show for themselves, family and friends!!”

The Annual Affordable Art Show gives people the chance to start their collections at an affordable price.  If you are already a collector there is plenty to choose from to add to your collection.
