Durban’s Umcebo Design creates art for Aids

Respected Durban art makers, Umcebo Design, is involved in two participative art projects as part of AIDS2016 – Light of Hope, an enormous chandelier with individually-beaded leaves which pays tribute to people touched by HIV/Aids; and a youth project envisioning an AIDS free-generation, dubbed The Butterfly Project.

Both projects involve community participation and both are made using recycled plastics –  family-sized yoghurt tubs and ice cream containers. Continue reading

Arno Carstens to perform a surprise concert at Caversham Mill

Arno Carstens is set to perform a surprise concert on the Caversham Mill Restaurant lawns in the KZN Midlands on Saturday, July 17 at 2.30 pm.

The lead singer of Springbok Nude Girls and solo artist has released 10 studio albums. He has had over 20 top ten singles, won five South African Music Awards and shared the stage with legends of the music world including U2, The Rolling Stones and REM.

Arno has also toured sold out shows extensively in South Africa, the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States, headlined every major South African festival and performed at legendary international music festivals including Isle of Wight, Glastonbury, V Festival, T in the Park and Hard Rock Calling.

Midlands diva, Cat Simoni, will be performing fabulous Françoise Hardy pop hits like: Find Me A Boy, All Over The World, Catch A Falling Star, Only You Can Do It, In Another Place, This Little Heart, The Way Of Love and classic Jacques Brel songs: Brussels, Amsterdam, Carousel, Madeleine, The Bulls, Marieke Marieke and If We Only Have Love at Caversham Mill Restaurant in the KZN Midlands on Thursday, July 14.

Cat is back home after a decade of entertaining at London’s five star venues and exclusive clubs such as The Ritz, Dorchester, Carlton, Mayfair and Royal Automobile Club Berkeley. The show’s director, Paul Spence, performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company, Stratford-upon-Avon and at theatres from Vienna to Copenhagen, London to Tokyo .
