SOUTH Africa’s iconic piano show, A Handful of Keys, is coming to Durban and the producers are on the lookout for a new pianist to feature in the line-up.

As the show tours, they will be sourcing pianists in each region to guest star with Roelof Colyn and newcomer, James Smith – and they want you to join them in Durban this November.

Auditions will take place on Monday, October 30 at the Rhumbelow Theatre in Cunningham Avenue, Umbilo.

The director of A Handful of Keys, Ian von Memerty, will be in Durban to host the audition process, which starts at 10.30 am.

“You will need to perform one razzle dazzle piano piece, in any style,” he said. “And then a contrasting number – a song, a parody or something completely different. So please prepare two totally different pieces to blow us away!”

The successful pianist will need to be available to perform in A Handful of Keys at the iZulu Theatre at Sibaya Casino and Entertainment World from November 8 to 19.

Audiences can look forward to The Complete History of The Broadway Musical in 12 Minutes, and songs from Liberace, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Funeral for A Friend as well as a South African medley.

“But of course we are always open to opportunities to invent new material!,” says Von Memerty.
If you are keen to showcase your piano-playing prowess email sophie@pubmat.co.za for further details, and to book your space, before Friday, October 20.
