DURBAN will be hosting the Essence Festival from September 29 to October 1 and as part of the event there will be a visual arts element.

Carol Brown’s Curate.A.Space will be organising the event, which has the theme Carnevale.

“We have chosen this theme so that we can link with our international sister city partner, New Orleans, which is famous for its Mardi Gras festival,” she said.

“The exhibition is envisaged as a multi-media celebration and would like to get submissions from visual artists, performers, street artists, multi-media artists and fashion designers.”

Those interested in finding out more about the Essence Festival are invited to a briefing session from 10 am to 12 noon on Saturday, July 15 at the Durban Art Gallery’s Rivertown Gallery in Florence Nzama Road, Durban.

Proposal documents will be published on social media from July 15.
