PUPULAR Durban radio, theatre and film star, Maeshni Naicker (Keeping Up With The Kandasamys, Broken Promises, Florida Road, Curse of Highway Sheila) makes her debut solo appearance in Salon Sue, a bubbly new comedy about hair stylists and their clients.
Written and directed by Clinton Marius, the play will be staged at Sibaya’s iZulu Theatre from July 28 to 30 Copy Dog Productions, the multi-award-winning company behind Lollipop Lane, B!*ch Stole My Doek and Mystic Twisters.
“Salon Sue is a jolly tumble through a working day in a small hair salon, showcasing the extraordinary versatility of this much-loved actress,” says Marius. “I love working with Maeshni. Her contribution to my radio drama, Lollipop Lane, which aired on Lotus FM for four years, was a highlight of the show’s appeal with thousands of listeners who tuned in for their daily dose of comedy on air.
“Maeshni’s unerring gift for delivering a comic line to perfection proved itself onstage as well, when I brought two of my plays, Ladies of Lollipop Lane and Mystic Twisters to Sibaya in recent seasons. Audiences adore her, and they can expect a real firecracker with Salon Sue.”
Naicker said she was looking forward to appearing in her first solo stage production, adding: “Clinton has a great eye and ear for comedy, and together we are going to bring you a crazy-beautiful show.”
Tickets for Salon Sue are R120 at Computicket. Performances are at 8 pm on Friday, July 28 and Saturday, July 29, and at 3 pm on Sunday, July 30.
