The magic of the Bolshoi Ballet comes to the big screen with Cinema Nouveau

A new season of seven wonderful ballets from Russia’s Bolshoi Ballet company will be screened at Cinema Nouveau theatres over the next six months. The first ballet to be enjoyed on the big screen is The Bright Stream, which releases on Saturday, October 22 for limited screenings.

The other productions in this season include: The Golden Age (from November 12), The Nutcracker (December 17), Swan Lake (February 18, 2017), The Sleeping Beauty (March 10, 2017), A Contemporary Evening (April, 21 2017) and finally, A Hero of our Time (May 12, 2017).

The ballets are brought to the big screen by Fathom Events, BY Experience and Pathé Live.

The Bright Stream tells the story of a ballerina who is reunited with her childhood friend during the harvest festival at a collective farm. In order to teach her unfaithful husband a lesson, Zina, the ballerina and the ballerina’s husband decide to swap roles for the evening…

Choreographer Alexei Ratmansky invokes the genius of Dmitri Shostakovich’s score at the Bolshoi, creating a laugh-out-loud masterpiece that features slapstick comedy, hilarious deceptions, false identities – including principal dancer Ruslan Skvortsov dressed as a Sylph – and its many colourful characters!

The Bolshoi bursts with vivid life and bright spirits in Ratmansky’s brilliantly choreographed smash.

The cast includes Svetlana Lunkina (Zina), Mikhail Lobukhin (Pyotr), Maria Alexandrova (the Ballerina), Ruslan Skvortsov (the Ballet Dancer), Denis Savin (the Accordionist) and Alexei Loparevich (the Old Dacha Dweller).
