DURBAN vocalist, Haylea Hounsom Heyns will be performing with pianist, Melvin Peters, Jeff Judge (saxophone and clarinet), Andreas Kappen (double bass) and John Gay (drums) at the Amber Valley pub area in Howick at 2.30 pm on Sunday, August 14.
Hounsom Heyns will sing songs from a wide and varied repertoire, including standards, songs from musicals, her own versions of swing tunes as well as songs from the Latin American Songbook.
The audience can expect to hear songs like, When I fall in Love, Misty, The Girl from Ipanema, Wave, Besame Mucho and Lets Fall in Love, amongst others.
Peters began playing classical piano while at school and then completed a Masters of Music degree in Jazz Performance under the tutelage of Darius Brubeck.
He has performed in France, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Australia and the United States where he had the opportunity to share the stage with the legendary jazz pianist Dave Brubeck.
These two talented musicians were introduced to each other by John Gay and have worked together for the past four years and have a wonderful musical connection.
Kappen and Judge are both members of the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra and Platform Jazz.
