THE Rhumbelow Theatre in Cunningham Avenue, Umbilo, Durban, is hosting a solo show by Melanie Roberts from July 15 to 17. All of Me will showcase Melanie’s inimitable diva style. She will be accompanied by Shemual Mahabeer on piano.
All of Me is Melanie’s first ever solo show in 33 years of being in showbiz. It will feature a kaleidescope of songs from the 40s to now, combined with her cabaret and musical theatre songs and into the pot an array of styles from pop to swing, jazz to ballads…..all woven together with her irreverent wit, conversations with the audience and anecdotes from 33 years of performing.
Expect to hear Elton John, Billy Joel, Elvis, Ed Sheeran, Gloria Gaynor, Tina Turner, Bruno Mars, George Gershwin, Sting, Carpenters, Ella Fitzgerald, Carole King, James Brown, Cole Porter, Beatles….and much more.
Encouraged by friends and audience members she decided she might have enough to give a show worth hearing. “It’s only taken 33 years but with the superb accompaniment of a versatile and brilliant pianist such as Shemual and his ability to embrace so many different styles of music as well as recognising and working with my somewhat unusual voice range I am hoping it will be a cracker of a show,” she says.
“Simply put it’s ‘all of me’ out there on stage giving all to you with dollops of passion and laughs. And my glorious gowns are by the one and only Karen Monk Klijnstra and hair by Faye at Hoi Polloi.”
Tickets are R140 (pensioners and block bookings of eight or more R120) at Computicket. Bring food picnic baskets but no drinks – there is a cash bar.
Showtimes: 8 pm on Friday, July 15, 8 pm on Saturday, July 16 and 2 pm and 6.30 pm on Sunday, July 17.
