Cape Dance Company presents A Thousand Shepherds at Artscape

The contemporary classical Cape Dance Company, under the artistic direction of Debbie Turner, celebrates its 21st anniversary this year by presenting five performances at the Artscape Theatre from March 18 to 20.

The season, sponsored principally by the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund (NDTLF) features the African première of Spanish/British choreographer, José Agudo’s acclaimed work, A Thousand Shepherds. Continue reading

Shashika Mooruth celebrates the music of Lata Mangeshkar

Well-known Indian songstress, Shashika Mooruth, celebrates 45 years in music with a nostalgic tribute show to the “melody queen” Lata Mangeshkar at Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom on March 18 and 19 at 7.30 pm.

Mooruth will be supported by the dancers from Sherese Dance Production for this vibrant musical showcase.

FilmClub to screen Claire Denis’ 35 Shots of Rum

Claire Denis' 35 Shots of RumFILMCLUB will be screening the third in its series of films by women directors. Claire Denis is one of the leading contemporary directors and tonight’s film, 35 Shots of Rum, although less well-known than some of her others, is testimony to her remarkable ability.

ALLIANCE Française of Durban presents the fabulous, free fifth annual Francofête on Human Rights Day which takes place under the trees in Sutton Park in Durban’s Morningside on Monday, March 21.

There will be a day time family event from 10 am to 4 pm and an evening sundowner music concert featuring fabulous francophone world music, from 4.30 pm to 9.30 pm which culminates with a fab set by jazz icon, guitarist and vocalist Louis Mhlanga and Madagascar accordion player Regis Gizavo.

The ever proactive Alliance Française uses this annual opportunity to showcase some of the best French; Francophone and French-inspired music; dance; theatre; storytelling; workshops; visual arts; exhibitions … and of course wonderful food and crafts in the alfresco market.
