Combine the poetic prowess of spoken word poetry with the magic of jazz and you have a performance that’s not to be missed.
Internationally acclaimed poet and writer Natalia Molebatsi is joining forces with Ariel Zamonsky on double bass, Yonela Mnana on keyboard and Siphiwe Shiburi on drums for an unforgettable performance at Newtown Junction on March 20 from 2pm to 3pm.
Molebatsi has performed her poetry with Alice Walker, Maya Angelou, Lebo Mashile, Sipho “Hotstix‟ Mabuse, Mara Louw, Abigail Khubeka, Dorothy Masuka, Jimmy Dludlu, Ernest Mothle, Concord Nkabinde and the Blk Jks, among others.
She has performed in South Africa, Senegal, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Italy, Holland, Azerbaijan and England. In 2015 she released Natalia Molebatsi and the Soul Making.
Zamonsky and Shiburi have both shared stages with many of the country’s jazz greats. Mnana is one of South Africa’s rising piano stars and is currently studying for his MA in Music at Wits, and working on his debut album.
Situated in the heart of Newtown, Newtown Junction combines the precinct’s unique cultural inheritance with outstanding shopping. The centre also boasts Ster Kinekor cinema and safe underground parking bays.
