THE Italian community in KwaZulu-Natal is being urged to support La Music Dell’Italianio – A Gala Opera Concert with a seasonal touch at the Tatham Art Gallery in Pietermaritzburg at 7.30 pm on Monday, December 14.
The concert, which features four of South Africa’s most acclaimed voices – Beverly Chiat (soprano), Violina Anguelov (mezzo-soprano), baritone Njabulo Madlala, and tenor, Sipho Fubesi – aims to celebrate the month of Italian language and culture abroad.
It is being hosted by the Italian Consulate General of Johannesburg and the Italian Institute of Culture, in collaboration with the Friends of the Tatham Art Gallery (Fotag) and Christopher Duigan’s Music Revival.
The programme, which also includes music by Maritzburg pianist, Duigan, boasts a feast of Italian operatic highlights, duets and ensembles from La Boheme, Barber of Seville, La Traviata and other operas.
There will also be music by Leonvavllo, Puccini, Mozart and Verdi, and an element of seasonal Christmas music.
Both graduates of the University of Cape Town Opera School, Chiat and Angeulov, have maintained busy careers on major opera stages and as sought-after oratorio soloists with major orchestras nationally.
Standard Bank Young Artist for Music 2014, Madlala, is now based in London, and Fubesi, a graduate of UCT and the Royal Northern College of Music is enjoying a successful international career.
Entrance to the concerts is free but booking is essential. To book for the performance at the gallery in Chief Albert Luthuli Street email email@example.com or book at the Tatham Art Gallery Shop at 033 392 2828 (between 10 am and 4 pm. Tuesday to Friday only).
