Sample some amazing hand-crafted tea blends, try your hand at creating your own, and enjoy a delectable coffee and tea inspired dinner on November 6 with Zamindlela Mkhwanazi’s tea, at The EasyEating Taste Experience – a season of four delicious innovative pop-up culinary/sensory/educational events culminating in a food conference on December 5, all taking place at 8 Morrison Street in Durban.

Zamindlela introduces guests to new, exciting ways of playing with, and creating new tea blends.

He displays an unquenchable curiosity when it comes to tea blending and brewing, spending his evenings experimenting in the manner of a mad scientist, with all kinds of weird and wonderful apparatus.

Zamindlela has come up with some interesting ways of brewing tea, including using a coffee siphon. He’s all about breaking the rules, and on 6 November he will share these methods with guests.

His business, String Tea, has flourished over years of determination, and a great willingness to learn. It all started with his home-made iced-tea, which is something he still takes great pride in making; sugar and preservative free, freshly brewed iced-tea. What could sound more appealing in Durban’s climate?

Being a Durban entrepreneur, he believes he has a responsibility to serve as a good example to other young people wanting to start their own businesses. He believes that the city is the perfect location for the beginnings of a tea business because of its rich cultural ties with the Durban Indian community, and their history with tea.

An extravagant meal will be served, and all food and beverage on the night will be tea or coffee-inspired.

The evening’s delights will include a flat bread open sandwich with white ginger and tea cured salmon dressed with chilli balsamic reduction and avocado to start, Ethiopian coffee braised lamb knuckles, with smokey tomato & chutney lentils and mozzarella stuffed butter dumplings as mains, and ending on a sweet note; Strawberry Kiwi Melange, topped with Ugandan Sipi Fall Crème Fraiche.

8 Morrison Street is located in the newly-rejuvenated, Rivertown Precinct between the Durban ICC and the beach.
