An exciting concert featuring the magnificent voices of Violina Angelov (mezzo soprano) and Lukhanyo Moyake  (tenor). Violina has earned a stellar reputation as SA’s top mezzo and introduces fellow Cape Town Opera member,  the young tenor, Lukhanyo Moyake.  They sing celebrated arias, duets and songs from Carmen, Samson and Delilah, La Traviata and  Rigoletto plus traditional songs and Rachmaninoff’s  Spring Waters.  With Christopher Duigan at the piano this will be a glamourous event!

Christopher Duigan plays a varied and inspiring classical piano recital for the opening concert of the Music Revival series. His programme  includes a selection of Domenico Scarlatti  Sonatas, Ludwig van Beethoven’s Tempest Sonata,  Frederic Chopin’s  Polonaise in F-sharp minor op 44 and Ondine from Maurice Ravel’s Gaspard de la nuit.  Duigan, regarded as one of South Africa’s most prolific, and  versatile,  concert pianists, is a Steinway Artist and has maintained a busy schedule of concerts, recitals and concerto performances nationally over the last  24 years.

Joanna Frankel, the concertmaster of the KZN Philharmonic and Juilliard graduate, joins Christopher Duigan in a programme of  violin favourites for a superb classical performance. Frankel has  received rave reviews for her performances most notably her concerto  engagements with the KZN Philharmonic including those in the World Symphony Series at the Durban City Hall and, recently, at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown. With pianist Christopher Duigan, the duo of Frankel and Duigan, have  formed a unique creative partnership over the last two years with numerous performance, including those at the Johannesburg International Mozart Festival, in the Cape and throughout KZN.

A superb collection of classic South African jazz from a superstar line-up of top  jazz musicians. Neil Gonsalves (piano), Bruce Baker (drums), Ildo Nanja (bass) and Mike Rossi (saxophones), play a  brilliant introduction to the classic South African repertoire, including  hit numbers  Tsakwe/Royal Blue and Manenberg from Abdullah Ibrahim, Pata Pata and Meadowlands.  Introduced by Rossi, Prof of Jazz at UCT, they include  music by Winston Mankunku Ngoni,  Duke Makazi, Pat Matshikiza and  Bheki Mseleku.

STARDUST

James Grace (guitar), Mike Rossi  (saxophone) and Christopher Duigan (piano) collaborate in a vibrant selection of popular music.  Hear their creative takes on popular standards including Stardust, Spain, Just the Way you Are and These Foolish Things. Also included are original compositions by Christopher Duigan as recorded on his recent CD, Indigo.  American-born Rossi is the first recipient of the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Jazz Studies from the New England Conservatory of Music, Boston. Some performing credits include appearances with Darius Brubeck, Tony Bennett, Aretha Franklin, Artie Shaw Orchestra and Winston Mankunku. Rossi is Professor in Jazz at the University of Cape Town. He joins James Grace, regarded as South Africa’s leading classical  and most versatile guitarist  and Christopher Duigan  in this unique collaboration of popular standards, flamboyant improvisations and original material.
