Violinist Joanna Frankel to perform with Baroque 2000 in Mariannhill

JOANNA Frankel, formerly concertmaster of the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra, will perform with  Baroque 2000 at their September 3 concert at the Church of the Monastery, Mariannhill.

Frankel, now concertmaster of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra in Ohio, is the soloist in Locatelli’s Violin Concerto Op3 No 12, known as the ‘Harmonic Labyrinth’.

The programme, which starts at 11.30 am, includes another two works by the same composer: the Concerto a 4 “Il pianto d’Arianna” Op7 No6 and his Introduzione Op4 Nno1, and Castrucci’s Concerto Grosso Op3 No.6.

Magical music in Kloof and ‘Maritzburg

VIOLINIST, Joanna Frankel, returns to St Agnes Church in Kloof at 7.30 pm on Thursday, August 31, for a violin and piano recital, following her spectacular Mendelssohn Violin Concerto performance in the recent KZN Philharmonic Orchestra Concert at the same venue.

CELEBRATED violinist, Joanna Frankel, is looking forward to performing Beethoven’s Violin Sonata in A Op.47 ‘ Kreutzer’ at this year’s Hilton Arts Festival, writes’s Estelle Sinkins.

Her recital, during which she will be accompanied by ‘Maritzburg pianist, Christopher Duigan, is one of four Beethoven-themed concerts being hosted by Music Revival in the Hilton College Chapel from September 16 to 18. Continue reading

Memorable music at Himeville church

VIOLINIST, Joanna Frankel (pictured),  and pianist, Christopher Duigan, will play music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven,  George Gershwin and Alberto Ginastera on  Friday, November 13 at 7.30 pm at the St Michaels and All Angels Church in Himeville.

Frankel is a Juilliard graduate and Concert Master of the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra and Pietrmaritzburg-based Duigan is a concert pianist who has performed with the KZN Philharmonic and at festivals and venues across South Africa.
