It’s going to be a sexy, sassy and exciting Sunday Beat session at Suncoast in Durban on August 30 from 2 pm when Mozambican bassist, vocalist and composer; Ildo Nandja entertains music fans with some Latin jazz.
Born in Maputo, Mozambique, Ildo was captivated by music from an early age. He got involved with a local music and dance company in Maputo and began playing the timbila, a traditional xylophone.
Later, he moved to Durban where he graduated from the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Centre for Jazz and Popular Music, majoring in electric and double bass.
Ildo’s dedication and passion has led him to perform in productions and festivals in France, Angola, Namibia, Portugal, the Netherlands, Libya, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Reunion Island. His compositions incorporate traditional African rhythms and melodies with various world music styles and contemporary and Latin jazz.
Ildo has collaborated with many local and international artists and plans on releasing his debut album later on this year.
“Playing at Suncoast is going to be fun, I am going to pull out all the stops for an entertaining afternoon,” says Ildo.
