MIDLANDS diva, Cat Simoni, will be performing the music of Barbra Streisand at the Rhumbelow Theatre in Durban at 8 pm on Friday, August 7 and Saturday, August 8 and at 2 pm and 6.30 pm on Sunday, August 9.The Way We Were! Cat Simoni does Barbra Streisand – her way!, written and directed by Paul Spence, includes Streisand standards from The Way We Were to Woman in Love, and the music of some of the world’s greatest songwriters, Gershwin, Kern, Porter, Sondheim, Bernstein, Rogers & Hart and Lerner & Lowe.
It also tells the highly entertaining story of the young Barbra in Brooklyn and the chutzpah that took her through adversity to stardom on Broadway.
Simoni has been touring South Africa with her shows since returning home from the United Kingdom where she spent 10 years entertaining the international crème de la crème at London’s five-star venues and exclusive clubs at The Ritz, Dorchester, Mayfair, Carlton and Royal Automobile Club.
Her shows include: Cat Sings Judy! Over the Rainbow with Cat & Judy Garland, Cat Sings Ella!, The Story of Ella Fitzgerald, Françoise Hardy, C’est Si Bon! and In Love Again! the best of Noel Coward and Gertrude Lawrence.
Simoni comes to the Rhumbelow for National Women’s Day hot off her debut at the National Arts Festival, Grahamstown, with her Barbra Streisand and Ella Fitzgerald shows, at the Albany Cabaret Club.
Tickets are R120 (R100 pensioners) at Computicket. Booking is essential. The venue opens 90 minutes before show for a picnic dinner, so bring food picnic baskets, but no drinks. There is a cash bar. Limited secure parking available.
