MTV Base (DStv channel 322) is throwing down a challenge to the youth of South Africa, as it searches for a brand new VJ to represent the channel.

The new VJ will host shows on MTV Base and MTV as well as interviewing stars, MC-ing events, attending international awards shows such as the VMAs, EMAs and MAMAs, walking the red carpet, and travelling the continent – all while being an ambassador for MTV Base. Continue reading

Pearl Thusi and D’Banj to host Lip Sync Battle Africa


South Africa’s Pearl Thusi and Nigerian music legend D’Banj will host Lip Sync Battle Africa, the first localised format of the multi-platform, pop-culture phenomenon to air on the continent.

The critically acclaimed and award-nominated Lip Sync Battle, originally created for Spike, features celebrities going head-to-head, lip-syncing the song of their choice, battling for the coolest bragging rights on the planet.

Pearl will serve as all around host and master of ceremonies, while Koko Master and Oliver Twist star D’Banj will step up as the colour commentator, adding his lively observations to the proceedings.

SA to enjoy local version of MTV’s Lip Sync Battle

A South African version of MTV’s Lip Sync Battle is set to be staged in South Africa. Viacom’s decision to host Lip Sync Battle Africa was announced by show host LL Cool J.

Under a partnership with e.tv, the series will air on MTV (DStv channel 130) and sister channel MTV Base (DStv channel 322) before making its terrestrial premiere on e.tv. Continue reading
