‘Maritzburg’s Hexagon Theatre to host two innovative productions

The Rise and Fall of the City of Baobabia.

THE Hexagon Theatre at the University of KwaZulu-Natal Pietermaritzburg campus will be playing host to two different productions in May.

From Wednesday, May 3 to Saturday, May 6 at 7.30pm, theatregoers can watch The Rise and Fall of the City of Baobabia, devised and directed by William le Cordeur, in the Studio Theatre. Cinema Nouveau to screen ‘The Threepenny Opera’ as part of NT Live

Cinema Nouveau will be screening the landmark of 20th century musical theatre, The Threepenny Opera, by Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, in collaboration with Elisabeth Hauptmann, as part of the National Theatre Live series.

This new production was directed by Rufus Norris for the National Theatre on London’s South Bank and filmed live at the Olivier Theatre. Continue reading →

Brecht’s classic The Caucasian Chalk Circle to be performed at Michaelhouse

PUPILS from Michaelhouse and Treverton will be performing German playwright Bertolt Brecht‘s Caucasian Chalk Circle at the Schlesinger Theatre at Michaelhouse next week.

Directed by William le Cordeur, the play, which can be seen at 7.30 pm on Thursday, March 3 and 2 pm on Friday, March 4, runs for one hour and 45 minutes with no interval. Continue reading →
