THE film RFK in the Land of Apartheid: A Ripple of Hope, which recounts Senator Robert F. Kennedy’s visit to South Africa in 1966, is proof that America was always supportive of the anti-apartheid movement. So says Mark P. Carr, public affairs officer at the Consulate-General of the United States in Durban, who spoke to me ahead of a screening of the film at the Catalina Theatre at Wilson’s Wharf recently. Entitled Ubuntu – The Opera, the work is the magnum opus of Durban-based musician and composer, Juan Burgers, who for many years has played a leading role in this country’s classical music environment.

Sing with One Voice is a choral music and dance concert featuring seven Catholic schools from the greater Durban area. This fund-raiser for the Denis Hurley Centre is taking place at Emmanuel Cathedral on Thursday, August 20 at 6.30 pm. Prior to the concert, there will be a free tour of the Denis Hurley Centre at 5.30 pm.
