Benedict Cumberbatch as Hamlet.

THE Fugard Theatre on the corner of Caledon and Lower Buitenkant Streets in District Six, Cape Town, will be giving theatre fans another chance to see Benedict Cumberbatch in Hamlet on March 20 and 21 at 11 am and 4 pm.

Screened as part of the 2015 and 2016 Fugard Bioscope World Arts Season, the screening from the National Theatre in London sees Academy Award nominee, Cumberbatch (BBC’s Sherlock, The Imitation Game, Frankenstein at the National Theatre) take on the title role in William Shakespeare’s great tragedy.

As a country arms itself for war, a family tears itself apart. Forced to avenge his father’s death but paralysed by the task ahead, Hamlet rages against the impossibility of his predicament, threatening both his sanity and the security of the state.

Directed by Lyndsey Turner, the production also stars Ciarán Hinds as Claudius, Siân Brooke as Ophelia, Anastasia Hille as Gertrude, Jim Norton as Polonius, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith as Laertes and Leo Bill as Horatio.

Tickets are R100. Book at 021 461 4554. Please note: The screening runs for three hours.
