Singer-songwriter, Nibs van der Spuy, will be performing concerts around South Africa, solo and with special guest, American singer-songwriter, Amber Rubarth. The gigs are supported Concerts SA.

Now based in Europe, he will be on tour to promote his first studio album in 5 years, Natalia, produced by world renown producer, Mark Tucker (Portishead, PJ Harvey, Jethro Tull). Don’t miss Ashwin Singh’s fabulous Beyond The Big Bangs

The Singh Siblings (an artistic collaboration between Ashwin Singh and Shantal Singh), in association with Daphne Kuhn will be presenting award-winning playwright, Ashwin Singh’s comedy-drama Beyond the Big Bangs at the Auto and General Theatre on the Square in Sandton, Johannesburg from March 1 to 12.

The play, which is also directed by Ashwin Singh, features Shona Johnson (Durban Theatre Award-winner for B!*ch Stole My Doek), Chantal Snyman and Annalisa Gxabu.

It premiered to acclaim at the Playhouse Company’s South African Women’s Arts Festival in August 2014 and continues Ashwin Singh’s legacy as an innovative creator of authentic, multi-cultural South African work and features in his 2013 anthology Durban Dialogues, Indian Voice, published by British publishers, Aurora Metro Books. Celebrating District Six at the Fugard

On February 11, 1966 District Six was declared a white group area. Over 60,000 people were relocated. A way of life was destroyed. Fifty years have passed and today hardly anything remains of what was once a thriving, densely populated, multi-ethnic and multi-cultural community.

The Fugard Theatre, located in District Six, is currently paying homage to what was once District Six – the place and its people – until May 22 in the show District  Six – Kanala. Continue reading
