Maritzburg Musician’s Club to pay tribute to David Bowie

9feb
Maritzburg Musician’s Club is hosting an intricate evening by MMC stalwarts and pioneers: Ilan Lax, Brian Bedingfield and friends.
Patrons will be entertained by a sort of musical chairs of talented musicians and the widest range of instruments you’ve seen four people play!
And as a special feature of the evening, the MMC are going to attempt to top a Youtube event that saw over 500 people singing Space Oddity in memory of David Bowie. We may not get to 500, but come and lend your voice anyway. (Words will be available).

Brian Bedingfield of the The Hairy Legged Lentil Eaters fame will be kicking off the evening with a cleverly compiled solo set of humorous and witty songs, and will later be joined by daughter and MMC co-ordinator Jes Bedingfield on bass, ukulele and melodica. You can expect to hear Eddie Vedder, Jack Johnson and some originals.
Next on stage will be Ilan Lax, one of the initiators of MMC, whose talent in song-writing and has seen him to on many stages around South Africa since his youth when you could find him performing with famous 80’s SA band Ad-Lib.
He will be shortly joined by Brian, Jes and Skippy Kubheka – who has too become a household name for his left-handed musical genius, as a helping hand at Marshalls, role model at Hilton’s MiTH or simply for his charm! The quartet have been appearing together since last year, and are known for their eclectic range of instruments!
The Maritzburg Musician’s Club meets on Tuesday, February 9 at La Casa, 5 Quarry Road, Pietermaritzburg. Tickets R40. The doors open at 7 pm.
