Opening on Monday, November 16 at 6 pm for 6.30 pm. at artSPACE Durban are the exhibitions, ‘Personal Myth, Collective Dream 2’ by Roz Cryer and ‘lies behind’ by Anne Schwankhart.

Each of Roz Cryer’s paintings represents a room in the house or a part thereof in which the characters and backdrops emerge from her own personal myth.

This exhibition will have on show paintings which will form part of the final body of work that Cryer will be presenting at the completion of her masters at The Centre for Visual Arts at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and the spring board for a PhD proposal in practice led research in Fine Art.

A work by Anne Schwankhart

Inspired by art at an early age, Anne Schwankhart admired master painters like Joan Miro, Paul Klee, Pablo Picasso and Hundertwasser as well as her uncle, Francois Wenger, who was a full-time artist and cartoonist.

This year she decided to paint one face a day, for 365 days, and it is keeping her in a constant state of exploration; showing up daily and experimenting incessantly. This, Schwankhart’s first solo exhibition, is a selection of these faces, as well as some larger work.

There is also time to catch The Courageous I… and Relocation exhibitions at the gallery at 3 Millar Road, Durban. The exhibitions end on Saturday at 2 pm.
