Burni Aman is in the country, in October and November for her South African tour with new music and a new band.
Formerly the one third of the Cape Town bred all female hip hop trio, Godessa, prolific spoken word and hip hop artist Burni Aman will perform in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Pretoria to promote her new debut album, Sweet Science with her new band, The Sciences.
The lyrical depth and socio-political awareness of Godessa lives on in Aman who now resides in Bern, Switzerland. But Sweet Science is about Aman owning her voice independent of Godessa.
Burni Aman & The Sciences is an intercontinental collaboration that will see Aman performing with Swiss hip hop artists, Black Tiger and producer, Meisterbeats as well as South African musicians, Reuben Crowie, Andre Hope, Byron “Asher” Willenberg and Nelson Malela.
As one of the performers, coordinators and executive producers of the intercontinental South African-Swiss multi-cultural exchange project, The Rogue State Alliance, Aman and 20 other hip hop artists, producers, vocalists, and DJs released and toured with the Rogue State of Mind albums from 2004 to 2007.
Burni Aman & The Sciences is a continuation of the collaborative spirit between the Swiss and South Africa, and a coming together of cultures and artistic influences beyond borders.
The album, Sweet Science, boasts jazzy, ambient electronic, rock and funky hip hop tones. Infused with hard core rap and at times a softer delivery of spoken word, it displays Aman’s gritty hip hop side, a sensual vulnerability and her maturing musicality. The content is a collusion of the personal and political.
The band interprets this with their combined musical prowess and sensibilities that make for a captivating live hip hop experience.
