THE Centre for Visual Art (CVA) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal Pietermaritzburg campus, hosts the 30th annual Art Historians’ Conference on September 10 and September 11.
A staff and postgraduate art exhibition will open on the evening of September 10 at the Jack Heath Gallery at 5 pm for 5.30 pm, curated by Mafa-R candidate at the CVA, Anda Dodo.
The theme of the conference is Power and Visual Culture, and research papers will be delivered by art historians from all over South Africa, as well as some of the top researchers from the department.
Conference sessions will include research about the vested power in visual culture, mass culture, pedagogies, museums and their mediation role and more.
Dr Anthony Downey, author and director of MA Contemporary Art at Sotheby’s Institute of Art in London, is the keynote speaker at the conference.
